Everyone has some tips for wearing your IWB holster, but how many actually work? I’m not putting on a holster that’s printed (easily seen) through my clothes. You shouldn’t either.
There are a number of ways to wear your IWB holster. You can wear it on your front right hip, front left hip, right side hip, left side hip, rear right hip, left right hip, front or back. Wherever you choose to wear it, let’s look at practical tips that’ll ensure you don’t face any problem when it’s time to be James Bond.
4 Helpful Tips for Wearing Your IWB Holster
Check for Possible Snags
A snag can be your worst enemy; here’s why. It occurs when your gun is caught by a piece of clothing, thus preventing or delaying the draw of your weapon from the holster. To prevent this, you need to expect the potential for it occurring & then run practice drills, drawing the gun to make sure there’s no snag. Should a snag happen while still having your practice drills, you will have to adjust either the IWB holster or the carrying position of the gun or just change your outfit.
Note that every second counts when it comes to bullet discharge. The inability to draw your weapon the instant to need to can lead to disastrous ends. You can practice moving your shirt clear during practice sessions to erase the risk of snags.
Select the Appropriate IWB Holster According to Your Wardrobe
There are different types of IWB holsters, all of which you need to understand their prod & find to determine which is ideal for you & your clothes. For example, I don’t use belts when using an IWB holster with a clip instead of a belt loop. This is because it’s easy to see the holster is meant to work with or without belts.
Have it in mind that some holsters may sit lower or higher than others, so you should also consider the length of your shirt. It is advisable to have some special outfits that assure you of comfortable concealment when you wear them.
You May Have to Press Down on Your Holster
If you like to wear your IWB holster without using a belt, you may have realized that some clips do not hold tightly as you would prefer. If so, you will have to learn how to press downward on the holster while whipping your gun out of it. Doing this will ensure you draw your weapon safely with the holster in place. Failure to press down while pulling your gun out of an IWB holster that uses a belt may cause the entire holster to pull out. And this will be far from ideal in a hostile situation.
Choose the Proper Holster For Your Gun & Accessories
Sure, you’ll come across many holsters that claim to be an all-rounder for all guns, but I prefer that you select holsters that are specifically designed for your gun. I hope you’re aware that your firearm choice has its exact holster, and it is typically much safer than the general ones.
