Well, welcome to the continuation of the topic: what if you were kidnapped? I’m not sure you’d get that from your kidnapper, except if he’s a fan boy infatuated with you. He may treat you very well, even wash your feet, but your freedom is still infringed on.
Let’s hope you never find yourself a victim of kidnapping — be it an overzealous junkie out to make money, people out to have a leverage over your family or a mentally inefficient fanboy who’s excessively keen on you.
But if you do, then we can continue preparing. Let’s see more things to do for your safety if you’re kidnapped.
Things To Have In Mind If You Were Kidnapped
Glean Information from Food Items
Whoever your kidnapper may be, there’s a very high possibility that you’ll be fed, even if not regularly as you would prefer. And here’s an even greater possibility: your kidnappers will be serving ready-to-eat food items. It’s rare & highly unlikely that your kidnappers cook actual meals.
Knowing this, you have to take note of the takeaways given to you. These products usually have telephone numbers, which would be to your advantage in situations like that. You’ll have to memorize the numbers that you see, whether on foods or bottle waters. Take note of the brands, too, including sweets or biscuits.
The type of food you’re served the most can be helpful too. There’s a high possibility that your kidnapper will be doing all of his shopping from somewhere close. I doubt that your kidnapper will travel to another city for food.
Commit Routes to Memory
Being able to recollect the routes taken (be it how vague) can be very helpful. It is crucial that you memorize the routes that are taken. Even if you were kidnapped, remember you still have your mind. Try to figure out the trajectory of your journey. Are you traveling in an upward direction? How sloppy did your car go, and for how long? You may not be mindful enough to count seconds, but you can always have an estimate of the time spent. You could keep track with how hungry you become.
This aside, you need to hone your tracking skills too. As the car drives, you should try to pick up the smell of exhaust fumes or pine trees, or whatever could be smelling. Is traffic heavy or light? How about the route being navigated? Is the car swerving & sweating, or is it enjoying a smooth, hitch-free ride? It’s the former, pray that’s Jason Bourne trying to get you out & not your kidnappers leaving the country through the forest.
Whatever you can pick up from how the car is traveling, you have to. The reason you’re doing this is…
Leave Traces Behind
Try to create the chance to leave some pieces of information behind. You have to do this very smartly & quickly, so your kidnappers don’t realize your wit. You can do this by leaving some strands of your cloth behind. Leave a mark everywhere you go.
You could cry & cry to use the restroom of a store and go into the toilet to leave signs. If you have access to a marker or pen, you could quickly seek help in the mirror placed in any convenience you stop at.
The whole essence of this is to help forensics out. This is why I emphasize picking up as much info as you can.
Engage Your Prearranged Signs
Obviously, this has to be even before you’re kidnapped. It’s a part of your prepping plans. You need to have preset signs agreed with loved ones so they can make out the traces of evidence you leave behind for them. This could be a folded piece of paper in the form of a jet.
Whenever you have a chance, you can quickly wedge this somewhere, or in fact, make it fly with the hope that your loved ones notice. You can bet that they would know it’s you if they saw it. I don’t see how any parent or partner would ignore your agreed sign when you’re missing.
You can easily fly this by throwing it out of the window. Your family, meanwhile, should be on the lookout for this, as well as inform the police of what to watch out for. In case there’s no means at all to write on, you can hold up a sign using your fingers through the window. Try to appear ordinary, so your kidnappers suspect nothing. To him, you’re just staring through the window, rubbing your hands against the glass & to you, you’re screaming for help hoping that your loved ones have informed the police of what your sign would be.
Note that you wouldn’t have the chance to do this if you haven’t cooperated with the kidnapper, as we’ve previously said.
Resisting Compliant Drugs
It is futile to resist if you’re given drugs or injections to make you obedient. However, you shouldn’t show that you’ve regained consciousness when you do. Pretend to still be out of mind, so you can assess the situation on ground. And while this is going on, you can make escape plans. The good thing about this is no one regards you as a threat at this time.
A common trick kidnappers use to know if the effects of drugs are out of your system is to shine a light on your face, prompting you to open your eyes. So, I advise that you’re laying on your chest as you feign unconsciousness.
Alarm Trigger Word
Teach your family a couple of words you could use to communicate without an outsider knowing that you are. I’m not saying that you all speak a language that the kidnapper realizes is different. Instead, speak plain English, but use words that you all have specific meanings for when SHTF.
I’m talking of codes! If you have access to make a call or say you were making a call when someone points a gun to your back & asks you to get off the phone, you could use a simple line as “mommy, I’ve got to go” to inform the other person that you’re in danger. You can text too.
It depends on your previous agreement. Just make sure there’s a language you’ve learned with people who are yours with which you all can communicate in plain sight without anyone detecting. You could lead the police straight to your location without your kidnappers having any idea.
Final Words: What if You Were Kidnapped?
You need to realize that your loved ones will worry when you go missing. It is only a matter of time before the police are combing the whole town for you. The best you can do here is do the little you can to guide and help you. Don’t be stubborn; comply with authorities, & appear out of clues. You need their trust to win.
I hope you’ve learned a thing or two from this topic, and it isn’t a jolt into reality anymore when you’re asked: “what if you were kidnapped?”
